Project Overview

If you have ever lived in the US as a migrant, you must have witnessed how hard it is to move money around because of the restrictions and timelines placed when moving money internationally.

Moneymie is on a mission to help migrants move money swiftly to their loved ones back in Africa.

Currently supporting over 10+ countries in Africa, Moneymie also helps migrants save money, invest, pay for business deals, and exchange for local currencies.

Role:

I worked as a Lead Product Designer alongside a designer, 2 backend developers, and 2 front-end developers. I also worked with 2 people from the business team to help improve their current app. We also worked on shipping out features and products that make spending and managing money easier for migrants.

Starting With The Basics.

During the early stages, Moneymie customers had the ability to:

• Get a multi-currency dollar and naira wallet, which could be used to move money.
• Send and receive money in Nigeria, which was offered by Ventures Gardens Group as our payout option.
• Fund their wallet using a card which was offered by our card partners called Sila Payment.
• Fund from their bank offered by our payments partner, Circle Payments.

Some of the above features and flows had a lot of friction.

Some of which caused a huge decline in our user retention rate, revenue streams, and growth.

This led to a need for redesigns.

Challenges We Faced.

These are some of the challenges we faced while building the Moneymie app

• There was a low retention rate on the onboarding flow of the app, which led to abandoned signups?
• Customers were finding it difficult to understand our system of verification
• Customers had to exchange first before they had to send to their loved ones, which were time-consuming and tedious
